I couldn't resist... "The Generation Gap"

Something just happened to me as I finished making my breakfast and it's kind of funny... We have two guys here this morning, who are replacing the backdoor, eavestroughing(sp?), and the facia boards. The sounds of tearing rotten frame off woke me up so I got up, inspected the large open hole where the door used to be and decided to splurge and make a full breakfast- egg, bacon, and cheese sandwich in toast. This is not an overly fancy dish, but it's tasty and good when you wake up and have the time. So, as I was finishing one of the guys, who is probably my dad's age (early 50's), is clearly a "local" guy- and by that I mean, a simple, easy-going, relaxed, small town, "East-Coast" person- well, he offered a compliment, "You'll sure be married soon, a woman who can cook!"

Hahaha, I actually didn't know how to take that at first. I mean, why did he assume I wasn't ALREADY married, why does he think that is a goal I have, and wait, did he REALLY believe cooking is one of the most important skills to be considered... Then I reminded myself that he was probably giving me a clear picture of the way things used to be, when life and relationships were the common life path and when they were SO much simpler. Not as much focus placed on sexual compatibility and sexual chemistry, and more placed on attraction, meeting of needs and emotional compatibility. Today people make decisions on partners more often based on their partner's "sexiness" and what they can do in bed than whether they can manage a home, have a successful career, balance a checkbook and cook a toasted egg, bacon and cheese sandwich for breakfast.

Part of me wishes I was around when people, like my construction man, were in their 20's. I probably would have found someone by now if that was the case! Hahaha!!!

On that note, time to finish packing my boxes- mover SHOULD be here after lunch to pick them up. Hope they make it in a week to the North so I won't have to be unpacking and teaching simultaneously... Time will tell! Have a WONDERFUL day!

Kejimkujik National Park- Aug. 3-5th

So, Dad, mom and I went camping at Keji. It was my first time sleeping overnight at this camp and it was truly awesome. I won't tell you my favourite campsite for my next visit since you might take it from me. But needless to say, it was SO quiet, relaxing, and peaceful. Very nice qualities for a mid-season holiday for Mom and Dad especially!

Here are the pictures to give you a tiny glimpse into what we enjoyed!

I have added the link for Keji if you would like to check it out for yourself!! http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/ns/kejimkujik/index_E.asp

Thinking even more clearly...

Ok, so after putting my thoughts out there for you all to read, I thought about it more... Since I don't like to publish "un-truths" on this. So, I have to make an amendment to the previous entry I made since it is not quite 100% true...

I was reminded of many, many people, that I do not automatically "click" with. There are a few that I do have the instant connection with, but there are many others with which this is not in fact the case. I have had quite a few instances of meeting/communicating with people and leaving with friction and misunderstandings that are confusing and leave me quite frustrated. *"oh, why does this person not understand me... that's not what I meant... why can't they get what I mean and how I feel?!"*

So, clearly, I do not have any gift for dis-arming people, as I had delusionally believed on Thursday (the date of my last post)... But instead, I think it is that with some people, I change the way I act, speak, think and behave. I open MYSELF more to some and NOT to others. THAT is why I connect to some people and not to others... Fortunately, when I open myself, others tend to respond in an open way, and likewise when I remain closed and don't offer much of myself to people, they tend to do the same and no connection is made in those circumstances...

So simple... I mean, that is the essence of communication... One person communicates and others respond, whether it is with words or body language... Now, I feel challenged to have an attitude that is more open to everyone. To make the most of EVERY opportunity to connect with people. It's funny because as I am writing these thoughts, I am watching Gill Deacon on CBC, and she is currently interviewing Phil Keoghan, the host of "No Opportunity Wasted", and some of his beliefs fit in to the new mindset I would like to have. To be a "NOW" person, that doesn't think of reason not to do something, but who tries to make the most of every opportunity that presents itself. Living a life without fears or apprehensions, one without regrets and "I wish"-es, instead with "I did"-s...

So, last week, when I had that amazing conversation with Audra at the Ex, it was because I had been fascinated by her- her confidence, her charisma, her passion in the music she was presenting, and as I walked up to talk to her, I was open, I was curious, I wanted to find out her secrets, her story, what molded her to be the way she was... It wasn't that she felt connected to me as much as I opened myself, and boldly asked and offered of my own story...

Now that I feel I understand that better, I better get my butt off the couch and finish my packing. I travel back up north on Aug 15th. Summer holidays are almost finished ALREADY!

The picture at the top was one I took last night, as I was putting away clothes in my wardrobe last night I noticed the collection of shoes and it kind of made me laugh. These shoes are me- a real mix of opposites- fancy and the faithful "All Stars"... Enough of the psychology for now... Next post, when I have time will be Keji pictures... Have a great week!

I was thinking...

Always a scary thought, that is me thinking again... ha ha!

I was thinking about myself a little lately. Still in the process of figuring out and wondering why I do things and think things in a seemingly different way than many other people I know. I'm not saying that I am totally unique or special or better than people I know, I guess I feel I am just kind of "different". I feel like I have been blessed with a skill that I can take no credit for, since I think it is innate in me, not something I learned as far as I know or could recognize. An ability to disarm people very quickly, to make them feel a connection to me that has never existed before our first few minutes of meeting, but one that the person often thinks is there.

Okay, maybe I am saying this in a confusing manner, but PLEASE feel free to comment, as I am posting this mostly to get feedback from you, my dear, beloved readers. I don't know if anyone can really imagine the number of times I have been asked by people I have JUST met, "Where did we meet before? Because I am sure I know you from somewhere!" It seriously happens at LEAST once a week to me, and in almost ALL of the cases, these people are people that I have and could never have met before, due to geographics or whatever. I started to wonder, is it because I have a common looking face, or is it something else. I started to think today as I sat at the exhibition grounds listening to music after meeting Audra, a musician from Dartmouth who was entertaining throughout the day today. She asked me where we had met before and when I said we've never met before, she suddenly opened right up and we had quite a great conversation for around 10 minutes about life, music, teaching, and the such. I saw in her something I have seen with many people before, a willingness to open up, to talk and communicate deep thoughts, dreams and feelings with me, even within the first few minutes of meeting.

I feel fortunate for this. As I have discovered as I have pondered this whole situation over the last couple days, I LOVE people. NOTHING in this world means more to me then connecting meaningfully with people. Connecting beyond superficial acquainting, to knowing and understanding people's true feelings, thoughts and ideals. Usually this connection can only happen after immense trust is built over time, but I have been SO fortunate to put people at ease or something quickly, sometimes at a first meeting. I am a naturally curious person when it comes to people. And as I was thinking about it over the past few days, I find certain people (especially successful, passionate, confident women) intrigue me. I love to know them better so I might learn what makes them tick, and how they have arrived at the place where they are at, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, personally and professionally. I get inspired by these people and try to absorb what they share with me.

So, yeah, that's my thoughts for tonight... I have more specific things to say about this another day... In my journal last night I made a list of some of the significant people (women) that I have known throughout my 28 years, who have had a big impression on me. Some of you might not even know that you are on that list... But since it is 1:20 am on Friday and I am due to leave for Keji with Mom and Dad for two nights of camping in less than 24 hours, I had better get some sleep while I can!

Have a WONDERFUL weekend, and try to disarm the people you meet this weekend. You never know how incredibly enlightening an experience it can be until you try it.

I'm just foolin' around... that's all!

Saw the Simpson's movie with my brother Paul last night... Then I found this funky website where you can create yourself as a character...
