Oprah is soon over... Time for sharing MY favourite things!
So I heard the SHOCKING news the other day: Oprah has announced the end of her daytime talk show in 2011. One of the greatest contributions she has made in the last few years, in my humble opinion, is her list of "Favourite Things", that highlights products you might have heard of or not and opens the eyes of the world to them.
Since she won't be around, I thought I would share my own favourite things:
1. Favourite TV show in DVD boxed set: LOST, Hands down! This show has it ALL- drama, suspense, romance, thought-provoking script, breath-taking scenery, fantasy, delicious characters, tremendous writing and actors, even humour/comedy. It is like a movie or a good book and is VERY difficult to put down once you begin. It is a much better show to enjoy on DVD than weekly television since the suspenseful show endings was difficult to endure when you COULDN'T know the answers for 7 days. It is really a show for any age.
2. Favourite store for unique and socially conscious Christmas presents: Ten Thousand Villages They have stores in many different Canadian cities and fairs like the one in Yarmouth this weekend. However, they also have an online store.
3. Favourite mittens: MEC Glide XC MittsI recently stopped at the MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op) and picked up a pair of these mittens. They are light for early and late in the season or for doing little activities outside like packing a qamoutik for camping. They are incredibly comfortable and SO soft inside.
4. Favourite Arctic Outdoor Winter Footwear: MEC Hut Booties 2. They are used by most "southerners" as indoor slippers, but in the high north where the snow is snow prevalent and thick all winter long, you do not need something thick soles as the rocks are buried and only smooth snow is usually underfoot. Warmth is the ONLY consideration for those long camping trips and these are some of the warmest footwear I have found. Only negative is their sole is sometimes slippery, so I only use them when I am out with snow pants on, so if I slip I won't have any snow on my pants. But some people wear them all winter long all the time!
5. Favourite Sandwich Spread: Anton Kozlik's Amazing Maple Mustard I picked a couple bottles of this up when I was at the market in Toronto a few summers ago. It's mouth-watering! I have been intending to make an online order for a while and think I might just do that today since I thought of it! I HIGHLY recommend ANY of their mustards. My friends bought a few flavours as well at the same time and I have been REALLY impressed by every kind I have tried! I also really like the fact that it is a Canadian product, so support them!!
That's a good start. Fairly weird list, but I will begin there and give myself some more time to be inspired with products and services out there! Share your own favourite things by posting a comment! (And be sure to check out the links for each product as well!
