Last few days of school...

As is the tradition at Ulluriaq School, certain members of the staff volunteer to put together a picture/memory book for teachers who are departing, so they have a keepsake of their year with us. This year we had four teachers who were leaving, Isabelle (a colleague of mine from secondary who had been up north since 2001), April (my good buddy, or shall I say soul sister, who was the new gr. 3 English teacher this year), Krystal (the new gr. 5 teacher this year, who was such a fun girl to hang out with, and who I got addicted to LOST in January/February) and Rhonda (the new gr.6 teacher, who was very artistic and created some of the most impressive paper mache things I've ever seen).

It was a larger group than usual, and for me, a year that hit me really hard- losing a long time colleague, who I respected and KNOW the sector will miss in Isabelle, and a personal kindred spirit in April... Needless to say, the last few days of school were rather tearful for me.

On Tuesday afterschool, the staff met altogether to say farewell with some hors d'oeuvres and fellowship. The memory books were presented and then people took their time to leaf through the pages and write a personal note to each of the "quitters" as Mark, the VP, jokingly coined them.

As you can see, it ISN'T always cold, by the last week of school many of us were wearing shorts and summer garb! This picture is the lovely proof... PS It is taken of mens legs, I know that we let the leg hair go a little, but most of the women DO shave before revealing their summer legs! ha ha!

Then on Wednesday, we had an end of the year picnic, with a mini 2 km Tundra Trot race around town, and picture slideshow in the gym after the barbequed hot dog feast in the front yard.
