April showers, bring May with no goose hunting...

So, it's been a week since the holiday ended and Paulie got married. Beautiful week and great time to be stuck in a classroom with students who are anxious to be out for summer. I got a couple pics from a friend of Jessica (Paul's new wife) so I thought I'd post them for anyone, who is curious... Hopefully my dad will make a CD for me of his shots.

Yesterday I went out for a skidoo ride to teh Koroc River with April, Trevor, Nancy, Isabelle, and two of the nurses, Francois and Karine. It was not the nicest day weather wise, kind of snowy on the way to the Koroc, where we met up with Jean and Maggie for a few minutes. We spent around and hour and a half helping Johnny and Annie with their nets. They were putting a new line under the ice with a clicker and it's always a bit tricky to find it, so we stayed an helped. It took a while and four holes before we got it.

At around 5:30 we were stopping in to Yayi's parents cabin, where Anne, Erik, Yayi, Rhonda, Kerrin, Charlie and "F." were staying over night. We had a snack before getting ready to leave. Unfortunately "F." decided she didn't want to stay overnight afterall, so she wanted Isabelle to bring her home. I say unfortunately since, we had not actually planned to stop in, nor did we have an extra seat. But extremely patient and generous Isa packed up her things for her (as "F." put on her iPod getting ready to be chauffeured home) and the two nurses and Nancy all squeezed on Nancy's skidoo to make room for her. I couldn't believe the way that she expected a lot but sat back and didn't even try to help out. She clearly thought people should serve her, and is the type of person who clearly is not suited to the North where everyone has to give and take evenly to survive. She's visiting and I doubt will be missed when she leaves... I don't say that about many people, but then again, I've never seen anyone take others for granted as much as her.

Things are melting pretty fast, there is a swamp next to my house already... Invested in a new pair of rubber boots, unlined ones for the spring/summer/fall seasons. Threw the other ones in the garbage at the coop since the smell of them were so intoxicating and the duck tape was hardly sticking anymore around the ankle so water was constantly rushing in! having said that, Manon (grade 6/7 French teacher), told me she was looking at pictures from last year and she had one from April 23rd, when there was no snow at all around our houses and the puddle extended in front of our three houses... So, I guess we are lucky to be skidooing still and for the snow we still have!

Last night I had a great supper after our day outside. Maggie and Jean invited Nancy and I for sushi. Lilianne (Maggie's daughter) and Kylie (her grandaughter) were in town for the weekend too. I hadn't eaten sushi for SO long so it was delicious! Kylie also warmed up towards the end and was giving me lots of hugs and giggling a lot. She is such a sweetie! We had a little sambuca and chatted for a long time, almost midnight before going home to bed.

Hmmm... well, I better go. The sun is out today and I think Nancy wanted to run the dog team. Mark is away with a group of students from the school 4 hours Northeast from town near the Ablouviak fjord. They were looking for polar bears... not my idea of a vacation but hey, to each his own. So, I better go for now. Hope to get lots of comments from my faithful readers to find out how your spring is going!

Quite the contrast-- sleeveless in Yarmouth,, skidooding in where?? What a neat idea,, bubbles instead of rice---- obviously you made it back safely,, final stretch-- really enjoyed our walk and talk together--The weather turned nasty after you left, so good excuse not to walk---
Polar bears?? And what do they do when they find them???
