Month one of my sabbatical is drawing neigh.
Twelve more to go.
I can already tell that time will fly and before a blink is complete I will be back up north preparing my class for 2010-2011. All I have right now is plans, and a few bookings, and projects to help my dad on. At that point, I will have to weigh out the advantages and disadvantages of starting another sabbatical plan. I am hoping that it will become a more beneficial arrangement, maybe one that entices longer term teachers and encourages teacher retention, but enough on politics.
Month one has been wonderful so far. I spent a few extra days in the North hanging out with friends; Luc, Josee, Anne, Maggie, Jean, Chris, Marie, Mark and Nancy; and planning a deck build with Jean for August 2010. We had bonfires, birthday parties, suppers and RockBand nights.
On Monday, June 29th, Nancy, the kids and I flew to Montreal, overnighted at Travelodge and then took the train to Ottawa together the following morning. They were visiting family and then going to their cottage outside of Pembroke and I was visiting friends(and their new babies!!) Sherry had given birth to her 3rd little boy 4 days before I arrived. I enjoyed my time with baby Charlie a lot! Andrea and I also spent some time together booking and planning our most excellent adventure to the West Coast for September! I cannot wait and am very excited about the deals we got!!!
I also really enjoyed my day with Rob, Michelle and the kids, who are all grown up it seems!!! Emily turned 12, and I was there on her birthday, which was pretty special. We had a fun time as well playing RockBand. Towards the end of my time in Ottawa, Nancy came back to town and we spent a few days, shopping and walking and sightseeing (and shopping!!) in the downtown and around the market. It was her kid-less holiday and I really enjoyed the couple of days together with her, trying to be young and wild again. Or maybe realizing how much we're not those things anymore as we went to bed at 11:30 after discussing heartburn and foot aches!! Ha!
Now, I am home in NS. Flew in on Monday and just in time for the exciting Seafest Week. I've been keeping busy, but have lots of plans for the next week or so, including house shopping.
Keep in touch everyone!
